- Verified 97% reduction in overall energy demand with improved comfort and IAQ
- Widespread application to the existing Irish housing stock with simple, affordable technologies
- Funded entirely by the householder from their own modest resources
- No renewable energy generation on site: savings delivered entirely by demand reduction
Retrofit of a semi-detached 1960 two-storey dwelling house to full certified Passive House standard. Designed space heat demand is 15kWh/m2a but monitored space heat demand in the first year of occupancy is less than 9kWh/m2a. The project is an exemplar for the retrofit of Ireland’s 1.6million existing legacy dwellings which have an average primary energy demand of 273kWh/m2a.
Project proves that a 97% energy demand reduction is possible and affordable.
Retrofit included full linear thermal bridge assessment in 2D and 3D informing the optimisation of all architectural details. All junctions were also assessed for surface temperature compliance (fRsi > 0.75).Read More
